Welcome to Markdale Minor Soccer!

President's Message

Markdale Minor Soccer completed a fantastic 2019 summer soccer season! The Under-6, Under-8 and Under-10 house league programs continued with our popular skills, drills and mini-game sessions that were offered to all kids in these age groups. The focus of these programs was on teaching fundamental soccer skills with the emphasis on having fun! Players learned how to pass, control the ball, shoot and develop core soccer proficiencies while constantly moving and staying active. These programs were offered once a week, with no travel outside of Markdale, as part of our own house leagues. For those players who wanted a second night of more competitive soccer each week, we continued to field travel teams in the Under-8 and Under-10 age divisions, as part of the Inter-County Soccer League. Our travel team players represented Markdale proudly throughout the region and our U10 team once again capped its season by winning the ICSL Cup. Congratulations to a very strong team! There are more victories in its future.

The Under-12, Under-15, Under-18 and Men’s Open programs competed within the Lakeshore Soccer League. This allowed our athletes to play on boys-only and girls-only teams against other teams from all over Grey and Bruce counties. Markdale’s teams have a long tradition of success within the Lakeshore League, but this year was particularly exceptional.  Our U12 Boys and U12 Girls teams both went on to win the league championships in addition to finishing first in the regular seasons. The U15 Boys were also outstanding, finishing first in the regular season and going on to win the year-end championship tournament. The U15 Girls were very strong throughout the regular season and entered the year-end tournament as favourites. They gave up only one goal all weekend long, unfortunately that goal was in the final against Walkerton, with a result of 0-1. The girls settled for silver but were very proud of their performance nonetheless.

There was one more gold medal for Markdale. The U18 Boys finished first in the regular season with a perfect 12 for 12 win record and went on to win the year-end tournament in dominant fashion. Finally, the Men’s Open team battled to a silver in a very close final game in the year-end championship. Congratulations to all the teams that played fair and represented Markdale well throughout the 2019 season!

We also had an Under-18 Girls Rep team representing Markdale Minor Soccer for 2019.  Our Rep team competed against some amazing teams from the South West Regional Soccer League which pooled teams from all over Southern Ontario. The team was a regional team, meaning that players from many soccer clubs in our area participated. The team played well in a very competitive league and made Markdale proud of their accomplishments.

Markdale Minor Soccer will continue to offer our players and families the choice to decide on what level of soccer and how many nights per week they wish to participate in. Whether you choose to play no-travel house league, travel house league or rep soccer, we will do our best to make sure your child has a fun, safe and memorable soccer experience in our program!

Thank you to all the teams, coaches and players who represented MMS in Grey County and surrounding area!

See you on the fields!

Mils Farmus
President, Markdale Minor Soccer

U6 Micro and Intro Program: (2013, 2014 & 2015)

The Micro Division is for players ages 4, 5 and 6 years old. This is an introductory program that is split into 2 groups, (Intro & Micro). The Intro program is specifically designed for all new players that are 4 or 5 years of age. It is a great hands-on program that gets parents onto the field and involved with their children. The kids get an opportunity to learn the basic fundamentals of soccer, with the emphasis on having fun and being active. The Micro program is the next step for kids that have played soccer before or are 5 or 6 years of age. They will begin to develop the basic soccer skills including proper kicking techniques, passing and ball control with organized fun mini games of 2 vs 2, 3 vs. 3, etc. to help them understand basic positioning, goal tending and game play. RONDO training will be introduced at this age group.

Under 8 Program: (2011 & 2012)

The Under 8 Division is for 7 and 8 year olds. This is where kids learn the rules of the game, team work, passing, shooting and more advanced skill training to prepare them for soccer games. The Markdale House League allows kids to play soccer once a week in Markdale, (with no travel), including a skills & drills session, followed by a mini game of 5 vs. 5 soccer, in a non-competitive environment.

They play games with referees and begin to understand the various positions, team work, passing and scoring of goals. From our House League, we will offer travel soccer teams from those players that are interested in playing a second night of soccer each week, (*additional cost). These travel teams will compete in 5 vs. 5 soccer games against other local house league teams in the Inter County Soccer League, (Markdale, Mount Forest, Hanover and Durham).

Players must play in the House League to be eligible to play on the travel teams. Travel teams will be offered to all players that want to play, but if there are more players than available spots, we will utilize a try-out process that, among other factors, accounts for maximum numbers of boys allowed and minimum numbers of girls on each co-ed team, to ensure they meet the co-ed requirements. Players in this age group may be asked to A.P. (affiliated player), to the age group above them to help fill out team numbers and replace sick, injured or absent players.

*** Exceptional Player Status - Markdale Minor Soccer recognizes that some exceptional players may be able to play in an age group above their date of birth, so cases will be reviewed on an individual basis. The criteria being the players ability vs. their peers of the same age group, the number of players registered in both involved age groups, the coaches comments, the parents’ permission and final Executive approval.

Under 10 Program: (2009 & 2010)

The Under 10 Division is a natural progression from the Under 8 program and is for kids that are 9 & 10 years old. Kids will continue to learn the rules of the game, learn positions, (ie. defender, striker, rover, goal tender, etc.) in a team environment. The emphasis will be on teaching core skills, including shooting, passing and ball control. RONDO training plays a big role in the training and development of players in this age group.

The Markdale House League will allow kids to play soccer once a week in Markdale, (with no travel), including a skills & drills session, followed by a mini game of 7 vs.7 soccer. They play games with referees on a larger field and begin to understand the various positions, team work, passing and scoring of goals in a non-competitive environment.

From this House League, we will offer travel soccer teams for those players that are interested in playing a second night of soccer each week, (* additional cost). These travel teams will compete in 7 vs. 7 soccer games against other local teams in the Inter County Soccer League, (Markdale, Chatsworth, Mount Forest, Blue Mountains, Hanover and Durham). Players must play in the House League to be eligible to play on the travel teams. Travel teams will be offered to all players that want to play, but if there are more players than available spots, we will utilize a try-out process to select the teams that, among other factors, accounts for maximum numbers of boys allowed and minimum numbers of girls on each co-ed team, to ensure they meet the league’s co-ed requirements.

Under 12 Program: (2007 & 2008)

The Under 12 program has changed significantly province wide to adapt to the new Long Term Player Development (L.T.P.D.). Players compete in 9 vs. 9 soccer on a unique sized field. We will offer boys only and girls only teams in the Lakeshore Soccer League. Teams will have 1 game per week plus 1 team practice per week.

This new program will help to transition players from the mini game to full sided soccer in U13 and above. The emphasis of this age group will be on individual skill development and team concepts.

Players in this age group may be asked to A.P. (affiliated player), to the age group above them to help fill out team numbers and replace sick, injured or absent players.

All of the rep teams will have a minimum of 1 team practice per week and 1 game per week.

There is also an indoor training program offered to all of our rep teams over the winter months. The indoor program is split between soccer training and fitness, as well as guest trainers that may include nutritionists, running coaches and various other community leaders to assist and prepare the players for a higher level of competition.
